Free Yoga

Peace Garden

Join The Collective STL for complimentary yoga in the Peace Garden. Classes are appropriate for all levels including beginners. Each day will consist of 3 classes each day held at 11:00, 1:00, and 3:00.

Free Rock Climbing

Pagoda Circle near Transportation Area

Try your climbing skills at the Upper Limits 24′ rock climbing wall.  Beginners and pros alike are welcome to take the challenge to reach the top.

Check out the latest fuel-efficient vehicles, including electric cars and both personal and commercial vehicles that run on alternative fuels.  Owners/drivers will be on hand to answer questions.

We will have aerial performers each day demonstrating their skills.  On Sunday, you can have an opportunity to try your hand at hula hooping, juggling, and other interactive ground skills.

Educational Activities

Environmental education and hands-on learning are key components of the Festival.

Many of the hands-on environmental education activity booths are clustered in the Youth Corner, but can also be found throughout the Festival. In the program booth listing, look for the hand print stamp to easily find kid-friendly activities.

Big Muddy Adventures Paddle a Handmade, 30′ Canoe! Come experience our signature, handmade, 30′ voyager canoe “Junebug.” Participants of all ages are invited to sit in and paddle. Although we won’t actually be on the water, you will learn proper paddling technique and hear what it is like to paddle this canoe on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers! RIVER TIME is the best time! Citizens’ Climate Lobby / Arizmendi Ecovillage Creating a World that Works for Everyone Come sign a postcard addressed to their Member of Congress, thanking them for their service and asking them to take appropriate action on climate change at the national level.

Kids come add to a big drawing or create a smaller one to take home – that shows one or more things you love to do outdoors or places you love to visit. Explore what you can do to protect the environment.

Endangered Wolf Center Wolf Turf Game Learn what it is like to work together as a wolf pack! Try to “catch” enough food to feed every wolf in your pack. How successful will your pack be? N-23, 24
Erase the Trace Making Dog Toys, Fishing for Trash, and Eco-Games Using old discarded t-shirts, make toys for pups to take home to your furry, best friends or leave them behind to be gifted to the MO Humane Society.

Fish out the waste so the “fish” have room to swim! Then decide which bin it goes in for proper disposal, and why!

Forest ReLeaf is turning 30! Help us celebrate by sharing your “tree wish” with us for a greener tomorrow! For every wish collected during the Earth Day Festival, a tree will be planted across the state of Missouri. N-8, 9, 10
Forest ReLeaf of Missouri Ask an Arborist Professional arborists will be on hand throughout the day to answer your questions about what trees are good to plant, troubleshooting your tree issues, expert tips on tree care, etc. N-8, 9, 10
Little Leaders Academy Environmental Education in the Mud Kitchen Come play in the mud kitchens to forage, gather, make, share, and celebrate with each other and the beauty of nature. Our learning space will provide children access to active play in nature with kitchen items and connecting to the earth with mud and other natural elements. D-9
Missouri Botanical Garden Compost: Chef Nature’s Recipe for Zero Waste Learn about nature’s recipe for zero waste in this hands-on activity that explores waste, recycling, and what you can do at home. Y-1
Missouri Gateway Green Building Council Every School Can Be a Green School Stop by the our booth and spin the Green Schools Wheel to test your green schools knowledge, share what practices your school already has in place, and explore new ideas for no and low cost sustainability projects. Learn how you can participate in the Green Schools Quest. Y-2
National Great Rivers Research and Education Center Mussel Madness and Trash Timeline Come simulate how river ecologists survey for mussels in the watershed. You will also be challenged to separate the shells of nonnative from native mussels. There may even be some live mussels!

You will be challenged to think about your waste stream and how long trash in the river persists before breaking down. Put a piece of trash on the right place on the trash timeline.

National Weather Service, St. Louis Rain Gauge Race Participants will attempt to fill a rain gauge using a sponge as fast as possible. The first one to fill the gauge to 1.00″ wins! Y-6
New Earth Farm Food Waste to Compost Come play in a pile of compost and try out our compost screen to see how compost “fines” get separated from the “overs” (larger stuff). R-7

St. Louis Aquarium Foundation Trivia Game! Everyone loves to play trivia! Learn how you can take small steps everyday to make our community and environment a healthier place. N-2
St. Louis BWorks Balance-Bike Safety Course & Fix-A-Flat Fun Young children can take turns trying out a balance bike and gaining confidence on two wheels even before they worry about those pesky pedals.

Others can practice fixing a flat bicycle tire.

Saint Louis Chess Club Chess Lessons & Puzzles Play our giant chess game and learn cause and effect and problem solving. Y-19
Saint Louis Science Center Make Some Algae String Mix up algae gels using common ingredients like corn syrup, honey and alginate to form a plastic substitute. Squeeze out “string” into a calcium carbonate bath and watch the gel form into “string” that looks similar to plastics used for bracelets and lanyard crafts. Y-17

Saint Louis Zoo Hop on Board for Frog Conservation Visit with Zoo professionals to learn about frog and toad conservation. Hands on activities highlight ways to help amphibians in your own backyard. Citizen Science programs emphasize how collective action and activities can help scientists understand the health of ecosystems. Hop on by to learn how you can make an impact to protect these critical species. Y-7
STEM Pros Make Bubbles! Making your own bubbles is so easy and fun! Do some science – try 2 recipes and compare them with store bought solutions to see which works better. Y-15, 16

Stream Teams United Aquatic Creatures of Missouri Streams Come view and learn how to identify stream macro-invertebrates that are commonly found in our Missouri rivers and streams. Learn how you can become involved as stewards of local streams. N-21
The College School (Saturday only) Wildflower Seed Balls Help local pollinators by creating a wildflower seed ball with clay to take home and plant in your garden! Y-5
The Nature Institute The Incredible Journey from Project WET Where will the water you drink this morning be tomorrow? With the roll of a cube, simulate the movement of water within the water cycle. You will go to different places within the realm of where we find water; clouds, rivers, lakes, glaciers, etc. N-31, 32
The Waldorf School of St. Louis Making Jump Ropes This is a fun and simple craft. The finished yarn rope can be used for all types of creative fabric projects and fun. Plus, you make it yourself!! Y-18
Thomas Dunn Learning Center No Sew T-shirt Bag Learn how to turn a t-shirt into a tote bag without sewing a stitch! Don’t throw away your old t-shirts. Instead, upcycle and make a t-shirt bag that can be used over and over again. Upcycling is an inexpensive, creative way to reduce your carbon footprint. T-shirts will be provided, or you can bring your own shirt for your bag. R-4

Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center Geology and Ecology Rocks! Explore rocks, minerals, animal specimens, and scientific tools. Test and analyze different items, just like a field scientist, learning how people evaluate nature to protect and conserve it. Y-4
