The Green Dining Alliance (GDA) is a grant-funded restaurant sustainability and certification program that has been growing steadily since 2012. With a marketing grant from the St. Louis County Department of Health, and increased funding from the St. Louis Jefferson Solid Waste Management District, we anticipate continuing growth trends in 2016.
St. Louis Earth Day is seeking candidates for 1 of 2 scenarios as we reorganize the staffing of our Green Dining Alliance program:
- Full time GDA Program Manager supported by a GDA Business Development Associate (6 month, part time OR independent contractor)
- GDA Audit Specialist (30hrs/week) plus a GDA Program Coordinator (20hrs/week)

GDA Program Manager – The GDA Program Manager’s primary focus will be to coordinate the program and meet project goals. The Manager will be the chief liaison with program participants and stakeholders. The candidate should be prepared to work independently to create new business leads, develop relationships, perform restaurant sustainability audits, and coordinate the program with support from SLED staff members, the Board of Directors and a steering committee. Previous experience in the food service industry and training in the sustainability field are required. This is a full-time, salaried position with full health insurance benefits.
GDA Business Development Associate – The primary focus of the GDA Business Development Associate will be to identify and recruit restaurant participants to the GDA program. The Associate will research, contact and meet with restaurants to inspire their interest in restaurant sustainability and ultimately sign them up for the GDA program. Previous sales and consulting experience, ideally within the food service and/or sustainability industries, is required. This is a grant funded part-time position, anticipating 20 hours per week for 6 months.
The GDA Program Coordinator is principally responsible for administering the program and meet project goals. The Coordinator will be the primary liaison with program participants and stakeholders, and will coordinate outreach to both restaurants and the general public. The candidate should be prepared to work independently to develop the program with support from an Audit Specialist and other staff members, the Board of Directors and a steering committee. Qualified candidates will have a strong understanding of environmental issues, experience in project management, and excellent writing and public speaking skills. This is a grant funded part-time position, anticipating 20 hours per week.
The GDA Audit Specialist is responsible for business development and the technical administration of the program. The Audit Specialist will be the chief program business development manager and technical subject matter expert. The candidate should be prepared to work independently to create new business leads, develop relationships, perform restaurant sustainability audits, and develop the program with support from SLED staff members, the Board of Directors and a steering committee. Qualified candidates will possess expertise in green building, sustainable operations, and be familiar with the food service industry. This is a grant funded part-time position, anticipating 25 – 30 hours per week.
Final staff structure will be determined by the applicant pool. On all positions, compensation is commensurate with experience.
